How to Add Beads for Emphasis
One of the Most Popular Religious Cross Stitch Kit
If you buy a kit that does not include beads, you can still add your own beads to embellish the design. For instance, on the beloved kit below, you could add red glass seed beads to accent the wine in the glasses on the table, bringing a subtle reminder to their significance. You could also use a clear glass seed beads at the throat of the tunic Christ is wearing. Another suggestion would be to add clear beads in the open window behind Christ’s head for a spectacular effect.
This design is worked on 14 count Aida cloth and would use size 11 seed beads. Some beads vary slightly in size, so you would want to lay the bead on the fabric to confirm it is the proper size. The correct match of fabric and bead would be a bead the same size as a single stitch. An over-sized bead will not be attractive on your finished picture and will look ill-matched. If the bead is too small, you would not be able to see it well.

Crystal clear beads give an amazing texture to colorful projects. You can add your own colored beads as well, but when the design has a wide range of colors you can use the clear beads with the colored threads.

Most Popular Christian Cross Stitch Kits
I have found that most of the popular Religious Beaded Cross Stitch Kits do not come with beads. Therefore, I need to add my own. That really is no problem.
Simply make sure you match the size of bead with the fabric size as described above.
Allow me to show you another example. Using the gorgeous kit below, I recommend scattering clear beads on the Christmas lights on the church roof, the Christmas tree lights, and the tree topper. Using clear beads will allow the color of the thread to show through. Plus, clear beads add a sparkle and dimension to your picture.
I do not recommend doing a lot of different bead colors or heavy beading to the same picture. Beading should be used to emphasis an area of interest, not dominating the picture.
Adding Beads to Cross Stitch Patterns & Kits
The art of beaded cross stitch is a wonderful way to expand on cross stitch, needlepoint and embroidery. It allows you to add another element to the design. Beads add texture as well as design lushness. You can see how elegant a difference adding beads to a design is.
If you are adding beads to a finished cross stitch project, you will need thread like the one featured on the right. However, if you are adding beads as you are making the the picture, you would simply add the beads with the floss as you create the stitch.
